This week I've written a hymn on the theme of missions. Its refrain echoes the song of Philippians 2, where the great day of Christ's full and final triumph is foretold, and each of the verses leading up to the refrain reflects on a specific biblical passage relating to the global scope of the Christian mission and hope. It's written to the same tune as the hymn "Holy God, We Praise Your Name."
Lord, We See Your Harvest-Field
Lord, we see Your harvest-field,
Crying out for laborers' hands;
Send us out to toil and teach,
Till the day shall finally come when
Every knee will bow below;
Every tongue declare You Lord!
Lord, we hear Your parting words,
Calling us to go to the world;
All the nations will hear Your ways,
Till their destiny is unfurled:
Every knee will bow below;
Every tongue declare You Lord!
Lord, we know Your heart's desire,
Drawing lost ones, loving them still;
We will seek Your wayward sheep,
Call them to come home until
Every knee will bow below;
Every tongue declare You Lord!
Lord, we long to see the day
Heav'n and earth both echo Your praise;
All the nations gathered as one,
Every tribe proclaiming Your ways;
Every knee will bow below;
Every tongue declare You Lord!
